Rocky Horton is a graduate of North Surry High School (2003) who lettered in Varsity Football (2001-2002 All-Conference), Varsity Basketball (2000-2003 Team Captain), and Varsity Baseball (2000-2003 All-Conference, USSSA All-State).
Coach Horton earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Appalachian State University in 2007. In 2011 he earned a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education also from ASU.
Rocky Horton was been the Head Varsity Boy's Basketball Coach at Starmount High School since 2012. During this time the Rams have won 5 Conference Championships. In 2018 the Rams finished 24-4 Overall and advanced to the NC 1A Elite 8. Since 2012 the Rams have had 5 players earn MVAC Player of the Year Awards, 2 NC All-District 1st Team Awards, 1 3rd Team All-District and 3 Triad All-Star Participants. He has now moved back home to North Surry High School and is the varsity men's assistant coach.
Coach Horton has experience working various camps including the Chris Paul D1 Experience Camp, Roy Williams' UNC Basketball Camp, Wake Forest Basketball Training Certification with Jeremy Russotti (Founder of Prolific Prep Academy in CA, Inventor of O-Bands, V-Bands, J-Glove), NCPreps Elite Guard Camp Coach, Triad First 48 Head Coach. He is also An Official USA Basketball Youth Development Licensed Coach since 2016.
Beyond coaching at North Surry & Starmount, Coach Horton was been a coach with Team Felton (UAA/ Greensboro, NC) from 2014-2019. He has been a coach at various age levels including 15U-17U and Unsigned Seniors. During that time numerous players have gone on to play at the collegiate level including Arkansas, Pitt, Duke, Citadel, Providence, Virginia Tech, Lenoir-Rhyne, Fayetteville State, Coker College, Brown University, Wofford, Saint Augustine, Catawba College and more!
Finally Elite Athletic Training is a Proud "PGC Partner Program"! PGC Basketball provides intense, no-nonsense basketball training for players and coaches. PGC basketball camps are designed to teach players of all positions to think the game and to be leaders on and off the court.
